Today the park belongs to a
foundation and is composed of 32 hectares with more than 15 kilometers of
trails full of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other bulbs in bloom.
In 1949, after World War II, at
the initiative of the then Mayor of Lisse and several prominent growers and
exporters of bulbs in the region, the first outdoor flower exhibition was
organized there, to the astonishment of the whole world attended more than
200,000 visitors. And the event grew to become an annual fair, which has ended
up attracting many visitors from around the world. This is how Keukenhof became
the most important flower park in the world.
